03WHY KOLLIDERTHE VISUAL INSTRUMENT

Music is a visual medium.

DAY IN THE STUDIO

10:12IN THE STUDIOMaking music.
10:40LIVEYour music generates a visual.
10:44FIND YOUR LOOKExpress your music with motion.
10:47SAVEDShare. Let the world see your sound.

As musicians ourselves, we have to share our work in highly visual environments. Visual tools weren’t built for musicians: they’re often complex, expensive and not mobile. So we built an instrument: Kollider is a visual synthesizer, played by your music. No AI.

A quick tour of Kollider: our visual instrument.

07.1

Sources

Every visual starts with sound. Pick your source to begin.

Live ModeYour mic drives the visuals and your camera sits underneath. Tap to record.
Import VideoPick any clip from your camera roll. Its sound drives the visuals.
Import AudioImport any audio file via the Files app.

07.2

Trim and starters

Trim it. Pick a look. Go. Kollider gives you a deck of starting looks, so you never start from a blank screen.

TrimDrag the ends of the strip to the part you want, then tap Done.
StartersSwipe across the stage to try them. Tap the stage to keep one.
In LiveNo trim: the deck opens on the camera alone.

07.3

Modules

Each module is a visual that moves with your sound. Stack as many as you want.

AddTap + at the bottom right, tick the modules you want, then Add.
ArrangeIn Freeform, tap a module to select it. Drag to move it; drag its lime handles to resize.
AdjustThe selected module’s dials run along the bottom. Tap one to change it.
RemoveThe trash in the edit bar. Tap an empty part of the stage when you’re done.

07.4

Layouts

Let Kollider arrange the stage for you, as many times as you like.

StyleTap the style chip at the top: Freeform, Mosaic, Hero, Bento, Layers or Ritual. Freeform is the one you build by hand.
GenerateThe lime button in the center deals a new layout in that style.
RandomizeThe shuffle beside it keeps the layout and changes the colors, settings and effects.
Pin, undoPin a module in its edit bar to keep it through every Generate. Undo, bottom left, takes back your last change.

07.5

Saved layouts

A layout keeps the look (the modules, the style, the settings) to use again with any sound. Your layouts sync to your account.

SaveTap the heart on the style chip and give it a name.
FindUnder Saved Layouts in the style panel, and My Layouts on the start screen.
ShareTap Share under a layout to send it as a link, by Messages, AirDrop or any app.
OpenTap a layout link and it opens in Kollider, saved to your layouts. No app yet? The link shows the layout and where to get Kollider.

07.6

Export and share

When it looks right, export and share.

ExportThe lime button at the top right. Choose Fast (30 fps) or Better (60 fps).
SaveKeep Kollider open while it saves to your camera roll, in a Kollider album.
ShareSend it on to Instagram Stories or YouTube, or anywhere with More.
Live, wideYour takes save to your camera roll. Want widescreen? Just rotate your phone.
